Description of institution: Hubert's title page to his printed catalogue (1664) delcares that his collection could be viewed "at the place called the Musick-House at the Mitre, near the west end of St. Paul's church." Sir John Hawkins (1853) seems to take this location as an indication that Hubert was "a lover of music" (700). The Mitre was located at 8 London-House Yard. After the fire of 1666, the rebuilt house was named the Lyre, and in 1717, the Goose and Gridiron (Dead Pubs, cf Hawkins 8:10).
