York Virtuosi (1670 - 1683)

A group of friends (antiquarians, artists and natural philosophers) who exchanged letters and met at each others houses to discuss topics of common interest (Malden, 43). Many were also collectors "and presented one another with samples for their cabinets, sometimes mere 'curiosities' but often of scientific" (Unwin, 218).
