Francis Ashton (1644 or 1645 - 1715)

Alias Francis Aston [Alias]

Fellow and secretary of the Royal Society and editor of the Philosophical Transactions form 1681-1685, sharing these roles with Robert Hooke, Robert Plot, William Musgrave, and Tancred Robinson. Aston entered Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1661 (B.A. in 1665) and was elected Fellow in 1667. Aston became a Fellow of the Society in 1678, and on 30 November 1681 he was elected one of the Secretaries of the Society, together with Robert Hooke: he was reappointed every year through 1685. Upon his death, Aston bequeathed to the Royal Society the whole of his estate at Mablethorpe. Relevant locations: Educated at Westminster School, Westminster
